Former Premier League midfielder Tim Sherwood has told Tottenham that they should never have sold a player that Leeds United are now looking to bring to the Premier League.
Leeds United have been linked with a string of new recruits in the January transfer window as they look to secure their Premier League status.
Daniel Farke has made no secret of his desire to strengthen Leeds’ attacking options, and this has seen them consider a move to sign Bragantino forward Jhon Jhon.
Leeds are also reportedly considering a deal to sign FC Midtjylland forward Franculino, who has scored 14 goals in 14 games.
Reports have now suggested that Leeds are in talks to sign Troy Parrott of AZ Alkmaar, who has grabbed the headlines for Ireland in the current international break. Now, Sherwood has told Tottenham that they should never have allowed Parrott to leave, after his prolific week for his country.
Leeds United target Troy Parrott could have saved Tottenham £60 million
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Sherwood slammed Tottenham for their decision to allow Parrott to leave before he had been given a “fair crack of the whip.”
According to Sherwood, Parrott could have saved Tottenham £60 million in the transfer market, and he now looks as if he will come back to haunt his former club.
Sherwood said: “[Parrott] never got the opportunity to show his quality for Tottenham. He never got a fair crack of the whip. Equal opportunity is what I stand for in football. And I think the kids from the academy need to get the same opportunity as the players you’re bringing in.

“Now Tottenham have signed players for £60, £50, and £40 million, playing in Troy’s position. And I can tell you now, they’re not as good as Troy Parrott. You might as well have saved your money and given this kid an opportunity and spent it elsewhere.
“They need to look at that for the future, because there are kids underneath your nose who are good enough, if they get a little bit of love, have a cuddle, keep developing, and that boy, hopefully, for his sake, will come back and haunt them. Because at the moment, he’s going the right way about it.”
How many Premier League games has Troy Parrott played?
Although Parrott spent several seasons with Tottenham, he struggled to make his mark in the Spurs first team and in the Premier League.
According to TransferMarkt, Parrott played just six minutes in the Premier League across two substitute appearances, with a further appearance in both the FA Cup and the League Cup.
Do you think Leeds will be relegated this season?
Parrott was told that he could be the top scorer in Europe, but he was forced to do the hard yards in the Championship and League One, playing 102 games in the lower tiers across spells with Millwall, MK Dons, Preston and Ipswich.
In many ways, Parrott’s career trajectory mirrors Harry Kane’s before the England captain forced his way into the first team in North London.
