Hollywood superstar Tom Holland revealed what made him decide to become a Tottenham Hotspur fan, and the regret he feels is extremely evident.
Tottenham Hotspur avoided relegation from the Premier League by the skin of their teeth last season. It was the latest in a long line of painful seasons for fans of the club.
While there are many long-suffering Spurs fans in the world, arguably none are as famous as Tom Holland. The English actor is one of the top names in Hollywood at the moment.
The star of Spider-Man: Brand New Day also played a role in The Odyssey. But even at arguably the peak of his career, he is still suffering from his decisions when it comes to soccer.
Tom Holland explains how his younger brother is the reason he became a Tottenham fan
Despite his fresh looks, Holland is the oldest of four brothers. His younger brothers include a pair of twins, Harry and Sam, and the youngest one is called Paddy.
And the brothers all figure in what Holland calls one of the worst decisions he’s ever made.
“The reason that there is a divide is my brother Harry was the first person to pick a club to support,” Holland said on The Dish podcast.
“He didn’t feel like he could support one of those teams because he didn’t want to be a glory hunter, you know. And then when my brother Sam decided to pick a team, he said to Harry, ‘I’ll support Tottenham with you.’
“I think Harry had been so battered by being a Tottenham fan, he was like, ‘Don’t do it. Pick another club.’ So, he picked Arsenal, and then Paddy followed suit with Sam.
“So, when I decided to get into football, I couldn’t leave Harry on his own, so I picked Tottenham. It’s probably one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made.”
One way or another, Holland is now a Spurs fan for life. That includes the entire roller-coaster that the club regularly takes fans on. It may be painful, but it’s certainly never boring.
