Tottenham Hotspur have the opportunity to immediately bounce back from their opening-day defeat to Brentford when they host Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup second round on Wednesday night.
The Lilywhites were dismantled by a rampant Brentford side at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday in a game that has sparked intense discourse around Roberto De Zerbi's transfer activity this summer. The pressure is on the Italian and his players to start delivering, and the encounter with Charlton should give them the opportunity to boost morale ahead of this weekend's crucial game against Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, Nathan Jones' team claimed an unlikely victory at the London Stadium over West Ham on Saturday. The Addicks have collected six points from their opening two Championship fixtures and will subsequently be heading to North London with confidence.
GIVEMESPORT has taken a look at the team news for both sides and how they could line up on Wednesday night.
Tottenham Team News
While Dominic Solanke and James Maddison returned to the fold in West London over the weekend, Spurs still have several players unavailable for the clash with Charlton. Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert are long-term absentees as they continue their respective recoveries from ACL injuries, while Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski are still fighting their way back from lengthy injury setbacks and will not feature in the Carabao Cup encounter.
Meanwhile, Micky van de Ven is understood to be close to a return from an injury he sustained during Spurs' pre-season tour of Australia. The Dutchman hasn't played a minute of football since the World Cup, so a short cameo against Charlton might be ideal for him if he's passed fit.
Elsewhere, Pedro Porro and Pape Sarr are doubts for Wednesday, with both players set to undergo late fitness tests to determine their availability.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, De Zerbi provided an update on Van de Ven, Porro and Maddison.
Van de Ven comes on the bench, Pedro Porro comes on the bench, Solanke is available to play, to start the game. Savio, I don't know if he's ready to play, if everything is good [with his work permit] to play or to come on the bench. Kudus is not ready yet, Maddison suffered a small injury on the shoulder.
Predicted Tottenham XI
While a morale-boosting win would be beneficial for Tottenham, De Zerbi is still likely to ring the changes as he prioritises this weekend's game against Newcastle. Martin Dubravka could make his debut for the Lilywhites in between the sticks, with Antonin Kinsky likely to be rested.
At right-back, with Pedro Porro out, Archie Gray will likely be called upon again. Kevin Danso will be called into the side in place of either Jan Paul van Hecke or Marcos Senesi, while Destiny Udogie could start to build his fitness after returning from injury.
The midfield is uncertain given Conor Gallagher, Lucas Bergvall, Mateus Fernandes and Rodrigo Bentancur all shared minutes against Brentford. Sandro Tonali will almost definitely be rested, while Maddison could have earned a first start in over a year if he had not picked up that shoulder issue.
In wide areas, Spurs are still short, with new signing Savinho unlikely to be ready in time to feature, although he could feature on the bench. That likely means Mathys Tel and Mikey Moore will keep their places, with Solanke in line to replace Richarlison up front.
Predicted Tottenham XI: Dubravka; Gray, Van Hecke, Danso, Udogie; Bentancur, Fernandes; Bergvall, Moore, Tel; Solanke.
Charlton Team News
Jones has hardly any injury issues to contend with ahead of his team's trip to N17. The former Southampton boss had his full assortment of players to pick from for the game against West Ham on Saturday, barring new signing Timothy Noor Ouma.
Ouma joined the South Londoners on loan from Lech Poznan this summer and is yet to feature for his new club. He's said to have 'physical discomfort' (via besoccer) and is a doubt for the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Charlton Predicted XI
While the league will certainly be Jones' priority this season, the visit to Spurs is a big occasion for the Addicks, and the Welshman is expected to go strong. New signing and former Arsenal academy product Arthur Okonkwo could drop to the bench after making his debut on the weekend, with Tiernan Brooks potentially in line for a start.
Other than that, Jones could name an unchanged line-up for the side that stole three points at West Ham, as he looks to continue the positive momentum his side have gathered in the opening few weeks of the new campaign.
