Tottenham reportedly rushed through a permanent deal for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel due to the ongoing transfer situation around Bryan Mbeumo. Spurs have triggered the option to sign Tel, who arrived on a loan deal in January, although they have managed to lower the previously agreed fee.

The club was initially obligated to pay £45million to make the 20-year-old's temporary move permanent. However, with Spurs having already forked out £8.5m for the loan fee, all parties have now agreed on an additional £30m instead. Due to add-ons, the figure could still rise a further £4.3m.

According to The i Paper, the club’s decision to accelerate a move came after Mbeumo indicated he still intended to finalise a move to Manchester United. Brentford have already rejected an offer potentially worth £65m from the Old Trafford club, with talks between the two clubs continuing.

News of United’s interest ignited while Thomas Frank was still in charge of the Bees. He’s since succeeded Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, fuelling speculation that his former player would now follow him across London.

Spurs are said to have made enquiries for the 25-year-old winger, who scored 20 times under Frank last season. However, Mbeumo has seemingly told them that Manchester remains his preferred destination.

Whether Sir Jim Ratcliffe is prepared to sanction an increased offer remains to be seen. In the meantime, Daniel Levy and co have ‘accelerated’ their deal for Tel, who has signed a contract until 2031 when his current loan ends on June 30.

That’s despite him scoring just three times for the club since his switch from Bayern. He was also left on the bench by Postecoglou for the duration of the 1-0 Europa League final win over Manchester United.

However, the French under-21 international remains a highly rated prospect. He made appearances for Bayern after joining from Rennes in July 2022, scoring 16 times and helping the club to the 2022/23 domestic league title.
