Thomas Frank has decisions to make on several Tottenham youngsters, including Will Lankshear.
Lankshear joined Tottenham from Sheffield United in 2022 and has since been scoring goals for fun at Hotspur Way.
After a stand-out 2023/24 season with Spurs’ Under-21s, Lankshear signed a new contract in North London that runs until 2029.
The striker spent the second half of last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion, and could once again return to the Championship next season.
Frank wants to take a look at Lankshear at Tottenham
Lankshear featured in the UEFA Europa League last season, scoring in Spurs’ 3-2 defeat against Galatasaray at RAMS Park (7 November), although he was later sent off in the same match.
MORE SPURS STORIES
Frank must now decide if the 20-year-old is ready for consistent football at Tottenham amid interest from the Championship.
Football London’s Alasdair Gold shared more information via his YouTube channel on Monday (30 June), stating “[Lankshear] has got a number of clubs across England and Europe that want to take him on loan. West Brom are interested in taking him back, and Ryan Mason is, of course, there now.
“But from what I understand, [Thomas] Frank wants to take a look at him first. He wants to have a little look at him before deciding what’s going to happen with him loan-wise.”
And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes there will be plenty of other Championship clubs, as well as West Brom, taking a look at Lankshear.
“I imagine Lankshear will go on the pre-season tour,” Wenham said.
“He will be looking to get some minutes, and Frank will make his decision. I know there was a story about Brentford looking at Lankshear when Frank was there, when he was scoring all those goals at Sheffield United after leaving Arsenal.
“I’m sure Frank will take a look, and if Lankshear is sanctioned to go on loan, I’m sure practically every team in the Championship would want him, so he’ll have options.”
Tottenham should loan out Lankshear
There is no doubt that Lankshear has the talent to become a consistent first-team player at Tottenham. However, it will be difficult for him to see game time over the next couple of seasons.
The North London club are competing in the UEFA Champions League next year and will be reluctant to hand any academy players debuts in the competition.
Furthermore, the Lilywhites will be looking for a top-five finish in the Premier League, which could mean fewer opportunities for young players. Therefore, Lankshear should consider another loan spell for at least one more season to continue his development.
