Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in a highly rated young centre-back, but Arsenal and Liverpool are set to provide them with some competition.

Tottenham Hotspur made the decision to sign two new centre-backs in the summer, one of whom was Kota Takai.

The 21-year-old is yet to make a start for Spurs due to his injury struggles, but he did feature for the under-21s team in a friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday afternoon.

It seems Tottenham could look to sign another young central defender, with the club reportedly interested in Cardiff City’s Dylan Lawlor.

Tottenham must fight off other Premier League clubs to sign Dylan Lawlor

According to Team Talk, Tottenham are not the only team interested in Lawlor. In fact, most clubs in the Premier League are keeping tabs on the 19-year-old.

Spurs are known to admire the player along with Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle. However, there is about to be even more competition to secure his signature because Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have now entered the frame for Lawlor.

There is also interest from teams in the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig all scouting the teenager.

MORE SPURS STORIES

These clubs have been hugely impressed with Lawlor’s maturity, even though he is still fairly inexperienced at Cardiff. This has not stopped him from being called up to the Welsh national team, where his performances have particularly stood out.

Tottenham must provide all their defenders with opportunities

Spurs already have a young defender in Takai, while Luka Vuskovic and Ashley Phillips are due to return at the end of the season.

There are also more senior options in Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin could soon become available too.

It is important for Tottenham not to sign so many players in one position that the development of those already at the club is stunted. Lawlor may be rated highly, but Spurs might want to offload at least one of their current defenders before attempting to bring him to North London.
