Tottenham Hotspur are looking to sign the Brighton defender, Jan Paul van Hecke, at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old has done quite well in the Premier League, and Chelsea are also looking to secure his signature. According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham might have an advantage in the race to sign the player, given his history with Roberto De Zerbi.

De Zerbi keen on a reunion with Jan Paul van Hecke

The Italian manager coached the player at Brighton, and both parties could be keen on a reunion. De Zerbi rates the Netherlands defender highly, and he has previously claimed that the 25-year-old has “incredible leadership” qualities.

Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from the London club, and they need to replace him properly. The Dutch defender is well settled in England, and he could make an immediate impact at Tottenham. Convincing him to join the club might not be too difficult for the Spurs, but they would also need to agree a deal with Brighton.

The 25-year-old is a key player for them, and they could demand a premium. They are under no pressure to sanction his departure this summer. Also, the interest from other clubs could drive the price up.

Van Hecke has done well in England

Van Hecke has shown his quality with the Seagulls, and this could be the right time for him to join a bigger club where he can fight for trophies. Playing for his former manager will be attractive to him, and it remains to be seen whether all parties can reach an agreement.

Chelsea needs more quality at the back, and they have been quite vulnerable defensively. They have conceded 48 goals in 35 league matches so far. The Dutch defender could be an excellent addition for them as well.
