A 21-year-old centre-back could be the subject of a bidding war between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in 2026.

It has been widely reported that Spurs are working to add a centre-back to their squad in the January window.

Last week, a report claimed that a young Wolfsburg star had been identified by Tottenham as the ideal backup to Micky van de Ven.

The player in question is young Konstantinos Koulierakis, who is quickly developing a reputation as one of the best young defenders in the Bundesliga since his move from PAOK in the summer of 2024.

Ironically, Micky Van de Ven made the same move from Wolfsburg to Spurs when he arrived in the Premier League as a young and up-and-coming defender.

Liverpool ready to battle Tottenham for Konstantinos Koulierakis

A new report in CaughtOffside has now claimed that Liverpool are ready to challenge Tottenham for Konstantinos Koulierakis’ signature.

The two Premier League sides are named as the Greek international’s ‘keenest admirers’ according to sources close to industry agents.

The outlet claims that Arne Slot views Koulierakis as a potential long-term replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who is in talks to swap Anfield for the Allianz Arena.

It is asserted that scouts from the Merseyside club have been watching the 21-year-old for several months and have been impressed by both his defensive positioning and progressive passing.

Competition intensifies for Spurs as Koulierakis price tag revealed

CaughtOffside say that Koulierakis’ ability to read the game and his aerial strength are quickly making many elite clubs across Europe take notice.

The publication adds that while the youngster is part of Tottenham Hotspur’s long-term recruitment strategy, they may also have competition to contend with from Italy, where both Inter Milan and Juventus are watching the player.

While Wolfsburg are reluctant to sell Koulierakis, it is asserted that an offer of €35m-€40m (£30.7m-£35.1m) could be enough to tempt them to the negotiating table.
