Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are two clubs set to do plenty of business in the remainder of this transfer window. Both clubs have money to spend and a point to prove after finishing just a few places above the relegation zone last season.
Spurs’ summer dealings became all the more important after Europa League final victory and the subsequent arrival of Thomas Frank as their new manager, as the Dane will hope to push on from the club’s glorious end to the season and find better domestic consistency this time around.
Over at the London Stadium, the Hammers were left disappointed by a 14th-placed finish which could in truth have been even lower, with May victories at Manchester United and Ipswich Town preventing what otherwise would have been a 17th-placed finish. Fresh new signings are demanded, though PSR concerns also hang over Graham Potter’s side which may ultimately need to be resolved first.
Spurs and West Ham swap deal could be the answer
Mohammed Kudus has been the main focus of Spurs’ attention over recent days, with the north Londoners expected to return with an improved offer after seeing a £50m bid rejected by West Ham. The answer could be a swap deal which would also solve one of Spurs’ own issues.
Yves Bissouma has been a strong performer for the club when given the chance and shone in the Europa League final against United, but injuries have hampered his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the club hierarchy may be tempted to cash in. Former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Bissouma turns 29 next month and only has a year left on his contract, so now could be the perfect time to move him on.
Spurs are reported to value Bissouma at around €20m (£17m) and they could decide to use the Mali international as a sweetener in a deal for Kudus, not only bringing the price down but giving West Ham an experienced Premier League star who could slot right into their side.
Mohammed Kudus and Yves Bissouma could trade paths
Bissouma’s 100th Spurs appearance in the Europa League final could be his last if this stunning deal were to go through, leaving both clubs happy and with a new key player to add to their squads.
Kudus’ quality needs no introduction, as the dazzling Ghanaian possesses a skill and poise on the ball envied by many. The 24-year-old will hope that he can find his top form again under the guidance of Frank and would relish the opportunity to play Champions League football.
Bissouma is a tough tackler in the base of midfield while being equally cultured on the ball, offering a unique set of skills found in few Premier League midfielders. He could bring something completely different and compete with the likes of Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez for a place in the Hammers starting XI. West Ham are believed to value Kudus at near £60m, meaning a bid from Spurs of around £40m plus Bissouma could seal the deal.
