Swedish national team manager Graham Potter has provided a reassuring update on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dejan Kulusevski’s recovery following Sweden’s 1-1 draw against Slovenia on November 20, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the 25-year-old Swedish international, who has been sidelined since May 2025 due to a serious right kneecap (patella) injury sustained in Tottenham’s Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace.
Recovery from such injuries typically takes 5-8 months, but complications can extend it to 8-10 months, as seen in similar cases like Wolves’ Pedro Neto.
Kulusevski’s rehab has been methodical, with recent footage from teammate Destiny Udogie showing him back on the grass during a warm-weather training camp in the Middle East.
Speaking to Swedish media outlet Fotbollskanalen, here via Yahoo!, Potter elaborated:
“Dejan is taking steps forward. He was happy with where he is in his rehabilitation. It’s in Tottenham’s hands, and his. But he is in a good place, and he was happy with his rehabilitation last time we spoke. Then he was ready to take the next step [in rehabilitation]. But there is no stress involved. He will do his rehab in a good way, and if he does that, I am pretty sure we will see him on the pitch soon.”
When will Dejan be back?
Well, he won’t feature in the North London Derby, unfortunately.
Potter hinted at a potential return around Christmas 2025 or New Year’s, aligning with earlier estimates from Tottenham’s medical team. This would mean Kulusevski could feature for Spurs in December fixtures, hopefully boosting our attacking options, which have frequently looked a bit lacking.
Tottenham has felt Kulusevski’s absence acutely this season, particularly in wide and attacking midfield roles, contributing to their inconsistent form.
For Sweden, Potter—who took over on a short-term deal after leaving West Ham—views Kulusevski as a cornerstone alongside players like Viktor Gyökeres (currently out with a muscle injury).
This update signals optimism, with no major red flags in his progress. Spurs fans can look forward to what could be a timely, festive return for our versatile Swede.
