Transfer market expert Graeme Bailey has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs who have made contact over a move for an England international after his club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Free transfers always tend to be hotly contested, particularly if we are talking about a player who is proven at the highest level.

That appears to be the case with Kyle Walker-Peters, who looks set to leave Southampton when his deal runs out next month.

Some sources over recent weeks have installed Tottenham as the favourites to re-sign Walker-Peters, who swapped the North London club for the South Coast back in 2020.

Tottenham make their move in Kyle Walker-Peters transfer race

Last week, it emerged that Leeds United, West Ham and Fulham were ready to challenge Tottenham for Walker-Peters, with the update suggesting that the Cottagers are trying to leapfrog their rivals to the front of the queue.

Journalist Graeme Bailey has now confirmed that the 28-year-old has not yet made a final decision on his future, revealing that a number of sides, including Spurs, have indeed spoken to the right-back.

When asked about Leeds’ chance of landing the former Spurs man, Bailey told Leeds United News: “I’m told no decision just yet. Leeds have had contact, but as we know they’re one of many clubs to be in touch with him. West Ham, Spurs, Everton… there’s loads.

“And some foreign clubs are lurking too. Can Leeds get him? Of course. But from what I can make out it’s going to be tough.”

Do Spurs need Walker-Peters in their squad?

Ange Postecoglou has three excellent full-backs at his disposal in the form of Pedro Porro, Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie, while Archie Gray has also shown that he can fill in at right-back.

However, there have been suggestions that Tottenham could cash in on Porro for the right fee this summer, which could be the reason the Lilywhites are in the market for a right-back.
