TOTTENHAM are on the brink of signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig in a £58million deal.

The Dutchman, 22, could seal the move today.

SunSport understands Spurs have reached agreement with RB Leipzig and are expected to agree on terms with the player.

Simons was yesterday granted permission by his club to travel to London.

He is set for a medical today.

Chelsea spent much of the summer chasing the highly-rated attacking midfielder.

Tottenham accelerated their interest, aggressively pursuing a deal in order to beat Chelsea to Simons' signature.

Thomas Frank's side have been chasing a No10 all summer.

The Europa League winners believed they had struck a deal for Morgan Gibbs-White in July, only for their swoop to dramatically fall through.

James Maddison's pre-season ACL injury then saw the Lilywhites turn towards Eberechi Eze.

Tottenham agreed a £68m deal with Crystal Palace following lengthy negotiations, only to be gazumped by Arsenal.

In Simons, Spurs finally appear to have gotten their man.

Tottenham could still be active prior to Monday's transfer deadline.

The North Londoners have been linked with several wingers, including Maghnes Akliouche, Ademola Lookman and Savinho.

A defender could also be on the agenda, with Spurs having looked at Piero Hincapie prior to Arsenal accelerating their interest.

Simons is set to be Tottenham's fifth signing of the summer.

The Lilywhites began their business by making loan moves for Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel permanent.

Spurs then spent £5m on teenage Japanese centre-back Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale.

Frank's men subsequently splashed £55m on Muhammed Kudus from West Ham, before sealing a season-long loan deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha.
