Tottenham find themselves in a relegation dogfight with two games of the Premier League season to play and their fate after those final two matches will determine the business they can do in the summer transfer market.
New head coach Roberto De Zerbi will want to make big changes to a squad that will finish in the bottom seven for the second year in succession.
A number of players are expected to depart the club, with GIVEMESPORT understanding club captain Cristian Romero will leave no matter which division they are in, while Guglielmo Vicario is likely to move on too. Ben Davies and Yves Bissouma will leave at the end of their contracts this summer, while loanees Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani will return to parent clubs Bayern Munich and Pairs Saint-Germain respectively, although De Zerbi does want to sign Palhinha permanently.
Tottenham need creative reinforcements in the summer transfer window
There is going to be huge change at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but incoming deals will be reliant on which division Spurs are in.
Tottenham have been bereft of creativity so far this season, with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski being absent for almost all of it and £53million summer signing Xavi Simons taking time to adapt to the Premier League. he is now absent with injury too.
De Zerbi may look to add reinforcements in that area of the pitch this summer and Tottenham have been handed a boost when it comes to signing a player they have been linked with for some time - Maghnes Akliouche.
The young French midfielder first appeared on Spurs' radar last summer, with suggestions that he would be the creative spark to sign. However, they were put off by Monaco's asking price and eventually landed on Simons.
Akliouche was again linked with a move to N17 in the January transfer window and Tottenham could plot another move this summer with Monaco understood to be lowering their asking price for the 24-year-old.
French publication l'Equipe said earlier this year: "Monaco's €70million asking price was previously considered excessive by some Premier League clubs, especially given Akliouche was still developing consistency at the elite level. That perception has now completely changed after his performances in the Champions League."
Spurs can sign Akliouche for a much cheaper price this summer
Suggestions are that his price tag has dropped considerably and that Akliouche would be available for around £43million this summer and Football Insider's transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke reports that Tottenham have asked to be "kept informed" of Akliouche's availability.
Akliouche only has two years left on his contract in the principality, with this summer being the optimum time for Monaco to sell to get the biggest fee for a player who has seven goals and 11 assists in 42 games for the French outfit this season. And the report states that Monaco are willing to listen to offers for him, having previously been against a sale.
Spurs may want to act quickly, however. Liverpool are also understood to be eyeing a move for him and he has made the France squad for the 2026 World Cup. An impressive showing in the USA, Canada and Mexico could lead to his price tag increasing once more.
