Thomas Frank is patiently waiting for attacking reinforcements to walk through the door at Tottenham.

It has been two weeks since Frank was officially confirmed as Ange Postecoglou’s replacement in North London, and since then, the Dane has been intent on bringing in a forward as a priority.

Tottenham have scoured fellow Premier League sides in an attempt to bring in experienced players, but are yet to finalise any deals.

The Lilywhites have simultaneously carried on their recent approach of signing younger talent across world football, and could be set to sign another European wonderkid.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Malick Fofana gets a huge boost

As reported by ESPN (20 June), Belgium international Malick Fofana is on Tottenham’s radar after a stellar season with Lyon.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The North Londoners are keen on signing the winger, who has impressed over the last two years in France since he moved to Lyon from Gent in 2023.

Spurs have been handed a huge boost in sealing the transfer as it was confirmed on Tuesday (24 June) that Lyon will be relegated from Ligue 1 after failing to comply with financial regulations.

The decision has shocked French football and is likely to see Lyon sell some of their star players.

Tottenham will hope to capitalise on the developments and bring Fofana to N17, though they will face competition from other Premier League clubs.

The Lilywhites have had mixed results in the past when dealing with Lyon, with former captain Hugo Lloris’s huge success juxtaposed by the disastrous returns from Clinton N’jie and Tanguy Ndombele.

Tottenham must focus on proven players this window

Tottenham’s strategy in the last few years of bringing in young European players has paid dividends, as proven by the growth of players like Lucas Bergvall and Destiny Udogie.

Spurs’ pursuit of Kōta Takai and Fofana shows that Spurs will not completely deviate from their approach. However, last season highlighted the need to bring in more experience to the squad, especially with UEFA Champions League football awaiting the Lilywhites.

Daniel Levy’s desire to sign players with sell-on value has its merits, but the chairman must sign proven players ready to instantly improve the first team if Frank is to have a successful start.
