Tottenham Hotspur are increasingly confident of reaching an agreement with Manchester City for Savinho, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs.
Savinho was left on the periphery of Pep Guardiola's squad last season, starting just seven Premier League games. His status in Enzo Maresca's set-up isn't expected to be much greater next term, and thus, the player and his representatives are exploring potential exit plans this summer.
Spurs have emerged as the frontrunners to land Savinho, although City are said to be reluctant to sanction the Brazilian's departure without sourcing a replacement first.
However, the Citizens are now progressing in a potential move for Chelsea's Pedro Neto, which is likely to open the door for Savinho to make a switch to North London.
Tottenham 'Confident' of Agreeing Savinho Deal
Tottenham have spent big money bolstering their defence and midfield this summer. Sandro Tonali has arrived in a blockbuster £100 million switch, while Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke have also joined for significant fees.
The attention for the Lilywhites' hierarchy now shifts towards strengthening the forward line, with a striker and a wide man on the agenda.
The North London club have been tracking Savinho for some time, and according to journalist Ben Jacobs, they are confident that they can agree a fee with City, although the deal will hinge on the north-west outfit's ability to find an adequate replacement.
"Savinho talks ongoing," Jacobs said on talkSPORT's YouTube channel.
"Spurs are confident that they can agree a fee, but then those numbers will be up to the Manchester City board.
"And key to all of this is going to be whether or not Ferran Soriano and the Man City board want to sell, because they didn't 12 months ago. And in all likelihood, City will have to find a replacement as well."
What Would a Reasonable Fee For Savinho Look Like?
Spurs are likely financially hamstrung for the rest of this summer, having already spent £237 million and having not yet made a significant sale. They'll therefore need to negotiate with City for Savinho carefully, and ensure they don't pay massively over the odds - which some would suggest they did for the likes of Tonali and Fernandes.
£65 million has been mooted as a potential fee, although this could be argued to be too excessive. Savinho wants out, as he is keen on playing a prominent role, which means Tottenham should have leverage in negotiations.
On top of this, the 22-year-old is yet to prove himself in the Premier League, even though Pep Guardiola labelled him as 'extraordinary' in the last 12 months. Spurs would be banking on his form for Girona in La Liga, and the risk this deal therefore entails should be reflected in the price.
