Tottenham now know that just one point from their final two matches this season will preserve their Premier League status and end what has been a horrific campaign on a positive note.
West Ham's defeat to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon means Spurs can relegate the Hammers with a victory over Chelsea on Tuesday night.
A point would not mean Spurs are mathematically safe, but given their goal difference in comparison to West Ham's it would all-but secure survival and mean there is no tension heading into the final day of the season next weekend against Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
De Zerbi plans big changes in the summer transfer window
If Spurs can get the job done on Tuesday night - at a stadium they do not historically enjoy travelling to - attention can immediately turn to what happens in the summer transfer window and how new head coach Roberto De Zerbi transforms an ailing squad to ensure the 2026/27 season does not follow the same path as each of the last two domestic campaigns.
Tottenham are likely to finish 17th in the table for the second successive season - a far cry from their status as one of the big six in the Premier League. De Zerbi needs to put his stamp on the squad and survival should see two new signings come through the door, with agreements in place for Andy Robertson to join from Liverpool and Marcos Senesi to arrive from Bournemouth.
Both of those free transfers were reliant on Spurs being a Premier League side and will be just the start of the transformation under De Zerbi.
One of Tottenham's biggest deals of the summer, however, may not have anything to do with a new face coming through the entrance doors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
With club captain Cristian Romero looking likely to leave the club this summer, there was a fear that a whole new back line would be needed, with Micky van de Ven also linked with an exit following another poor season. The Dutchman would definitely be on the lookout for a new club were Spurs to be relegated, but it looks now like he could stay. And not just because Tottenham look highly likely to remain a Premier League outfit.
GIVEMESPORT understands that van de Ven has enjoyed the early months of De Zerbi's stewardship and is keen to see what happens under the Italian in N17.
De Zerbi may have changed Micky van de Ven's mind
GMS' senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs said: "You have a profile like Micky van de Ven that Spurs really want to fight to keep if they go down. That's going to be very difficult, but I tell you something, if Tottenham stay up, my information is that Micky van de Ven is extremely open to signing a new deal.
"He's very happy with Roberto De Zerbi as manager, and De Zerbi coming in has enhanced the chances of Tottenham staying up and that van de Ven signs a new deal."
The 25-year-old has struggled this season, like most of his teammates and has not been anywhere near the level expected of him, nor that he showed when he first arrived at the club under Ange Postecoglou.
But signs under De Zerbi have been promising and if van de Ven is, as reported, happy under the Italian head coach, tying him down to a new long-term contract, to ward off suitors like Liverpool and Manchester United, could be Spurs' best piece of business this summer.
