Tottenham are locked in a battle with Arsenal and Aston Villa for the signing of Spanish talent.
Tottenham Hotspur have been showing an urgency to get their bulk of the summer transfer business done before the World Cup commences next week.
Deals are agreed in principle for Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi to arrive at the club, following the end of their contracts at Liverpool and Bournemouth, respectively. Spurs have also been linked with a move to sign Manchester City winger Savinho, while Brighton rejected their first bid for defender Jan Paul van Hecke.
All four deals, should Tottenham complete, would be inspiring for Roberto De Zerbi in rebuilding his squad. It would provide the Italian with the quality and depth he is looking for in his Spurs squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. He also wants an injection of quality in the attacking areas of the pitch after watching his team struggle to create and score goals last season.
Tottenham set to battle Arsenal and Aston Villa for Real Sociedad winger
According to an exclusive report from SportsBoom, Tottenham are locked in a battle with arch-rivals Arsenal in the pursuit of highly-rated Real Sociedad winger Ander Barrenetxea. The North London duo have been closely monitoring the 24-year-old’s performances in La Liga in recent months.
It is claimed that Arsenal are preparing an opening bid in the region of €30 million as they view him as a long-term replacement for Leandro Trossard. Tottenham intend to make Ander Barrenetxea a key target, while Unai Emery’s Aston Villa also remain an admirer of the winger’s talent.
Barrenetxea has a contract until 2030, which is protected by a release clause in the region of €75m, and Real Sociedad will be pointing directly to that in negotiations. The report adds that the Basque are under no pressure to sanction his departure, and any club hoping to sign him will have to pay a premium.
The one-cap Spanish international has the mix of technical attributes and physicality to cut the mustard in the Premier League, and he could be an asset to the aforementioned clubs. From Spurs’ perspective, Barrenetxea would add genuine quality in the wide areas of their attacking unit. He’d bring directness, potency, dynamism and creativity, as well as the 24-year-old’s ability to operate on either flank would hugely benefit De Zerbi’s side.
However, Arsenal and Aston Villa being present in the mix is bad news for the Lilywhites. Both will be competing in the Champions League next season, and attracting a talent like Barrenetxea would not be difficult. The only obstacle for the Premier League trio will be the Spanish winger’s hefty release clause.
