Tottenham’s pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White has evolved into the saga of the summer.

Daniel Levy looked set to bring Gibbs-White to Tottenham. However, Nottingham Forest threw a spanner in the works by threatening legal action against the Lilywhites over what they believe to be an illegal approach.

This sent the London club down a new path with the task of convincing Forest to let their star player leave. With under a month before the first Premier League game is played, Tottenham have entered a new phase in this transfer saga.

Gibbs-White joins Forest in Portugal

Gibbs-White was absent when Forest travelled to Portugal for pre-season. It was suggested that personal issues had kept him in England.

However, as reported by Tom Collomosse via X (24 July), Gibbs-White has now joined his teammates.

The long-drawn-out saga has left Spurs supporters questioning why the Englishman does not attempt to force a move. However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes it his down to his professionalism, something that appeals to Spurs.

“I think there are some players who do push to make things happen,” Wenham said.

“However, probably one of the reasons why Tottenham like Gibbs-White and like his personality is because he’s not that sort of player.

“They would have got references throughout his career at Wolves as a young kid there, and I know Tottenham liked him even back then. Tottenham were pushing to sign him as a 17 or 18-year-old.

“Tottenham would have done background checks on him and his personality, and he’s not the sort of player that causes problems. He’ll knuckle down, he’ll work hard, and I think he’ll hope that Forest and Tottenham can finalise the deal.”

Tottenham must look for Gibbs-White alternatives

Tottenham are venturing into a scenario where Gibbs-White remains at Forest next season. As a result, the Lilywhites will need to decide on an alternative.

Spurs have been linked with several interesting midfield prospects throughout the summer. These include Xavi Simons and Eberechi Eze.

However, both these players have suitors elsewhere and could be snapped up before Tottenham make their move. As a result, Spurs need to step up their interest in other players while waiting for a conclusion on the Gibbs-White saga.
