Tottenham Hotspur have beaten Manchester United four times on the pitch this season and are now looking to do so in the transfer market.

Tottenham have experienced a bizarre season. An unprecedented number of injuries has led to an unprecedented number of Premier League defeats, but ending a 17-year trophy drought in Bilbao has certainly softened the blow.

A lack of depth in the Tottenham first-team squad has become as apparent as ever. This has led to protests against Daniel Levy, due to the belief that he has failed to back his manager in the transfer windows.

One type of player Spurs seem to be lacking is an attacking-minded midfielder. With James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski injured for the Europa League final, Pape Matar Sarr had to fill the void and creativity is not a huge part of his game. Ange Postecoglou had to adjust his tactics accordingly in order to secure an intense 1-0 victory.

Tottenham want to beat Man United to Angel Gomes

Spurs would be wise to consider signing another forward-thinking midfielder, both to step in when key players are injured, and to challenge the current first-team regulars. This now appears to be the case, as there has been an update on a midfielder Tottenham have been linked with.

TBR Football have revealed Spurs are confident in beating Manchester United to the signature of a player who came through the ranks at Old Trafford. The player in question is Angel Gomes, who is set to leave LOSC Lille as a free agent when his contract expires this summer.

Tottenham scouts were present at Lille’s 2-1 defeat to Lyon last month to watch the 24-year-old, so a potential move is definitely on the cards.

This comes after Angel Gomes himself revealed he will be a free agent this summer, while Tottenham are said to be confident of signing him ahead of Man United and co.

Spurs transfer target Angel Gomes is highly regarded

Gomes is versatile and can play in different roles across the midfield position. Former England interim manager Lee Carsley gave the Edmonton-born player his first international call-up and described him as skilful and able to control games, with the ability to play deeper or as a 10.

However, Gomes has only made 14 league appearances this season and has been an unused substitute in Lille’s seven most recent matches.

It is up to Spurs to decide whether this is due to his lack of commitment to the club, or whether he is not as talented as the experts have said he is.
