Tottenham Hotspur are confident of appointing an experienced interim head coach by Monday, according to Football London's Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold.
The north London club are keen to bring in a new manager in time for the start of next week, ahead of their huge north London derby against Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on February 22.
Tuesday night's home defeat to Newcastle left Spurs just five points above the Premier League relegation zone with 12 matches left to play, and they need to start picking up points to move away from trouble as the clubs below them - Nottingham Forest and West Ham United - begin to pick up some form.
Tottenham to Appoint Interim to Make 'Instant Impact'
According to Gold, posting on X late on Friday morning, Tottenham are closing in on the appointment of an experienced interim head coach.
While the candidate or candidates remain unnamed as things stand, Gold believes that whoever it is who is appointed will also have a chance over the coming months to stake their claim for the permanent job, when Spurs will make that decision.
Tottenham want the person in place by the time players return to training on Monday following some time off, as they look to prepare for the visit of Arsenal.
Who Could Get the Interim Job?
The fact that Tottenham are ready to appoint an interim manager would seemingly rule out the likes of Roberto De Zerbi - who was ready to travel to London for talks over the role - and Enzo Maresca, who have been heavily linked with the club in the days following Frank's dismissal.
Other options include former Spurs striker Robbie Keane after the impressive job he has done at Ferencvaros, although it would require the 45-year-old to only commit until the end of the season, and he may instead be looking for a longer-term commitment if he is to leave Hungary.
Harry Redknapp is another experienced manager who knows the club and has thrown his hat into the ring, but he hasn't worked in club management since his departure from Birmingham City in 2017.
