Kevin Danso has left Tottenham Hotspur to complete a loan move to Sunderland on transfer deadline day
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Kevin Danso has left the club to complete a loan move to Sunderland. The deal for Danso could now open the door for Spurs to complete the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo from Chelsea.
As reported by The Athletic, Spurs will receive £2.5million as a loan fee for Danso to move to the Stadium of Light, which will also include an obligation to make the move permanent next summer for a further £22.25million.
The clause that would see Danso leave Tottenham on a permanent basis to join Sunderland will reportedly come into effect if the Wearside outfit avoids relegation from the Premier League.
Danso joined Tottenham in January 2025 from Lens and has made 52 appearances for the club, but has just made one cameo appearance from the bench so far this term before his exit.
In an interview with Sunderland’s club website, Danso explained his decision to leave Tottenham on deadline day.
“I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” Danso said.
“Sunderland is a big club with huge ambition, and I’m excited to be part of what we’re building this season.
“I know Florent [Ghisolfi] well from our time together at Lens, so that was an important factor in my decision.
“I’m looking forward to working with him again, meeting my new team-mates and experiencing the atmosphere at the Stadium of Light.”
The deal for Danso could now lead to Spurs completing the signing of Adarabioyo from Chelsea, who would arrive on a permanent basis.
As previously reported by football.london, Spurs are closing in on a deal to sign the centre-back for a fee believed to be worth around £7million, plus add-ons.
Mykhailo Mudryk is also expected to arrive from Chelsea on deadline day, this time on a loan deal which includes the option for the transfer to be made permanent next summer for £75million.
Should Adarabioyo and Mudryk be confirmed before the 11pm deadline, Roberto De Zerbi would have added 10 new signings to his squad.
Earlier in the summer, Andy Robertson, Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali, Jan Paul van Hecke, Martin Dubravka, Marcos Senesi, Omar Marmoush and Savio all completed moves to Tottenham for the current Premier League campaign.
