Tottenham Hotspur have just learned that a deal for Jarrod Branthwaite will be difficult to complete, but not impossible as Everton’s transfer stance on the centre-back has now come to light.

Amidst the continued speculation over Cristian Romero’s potential departure from Tottenham, it has been widely reported that Spurs may make a move for Marc Guehi this summer.

However, it was reported by The Times on Monday that Spurs may turn their attention to Branthwaite after Guehi had rejected a move to Tottenham.

The race for the Everton man is expected to be hotly contested this summer, with some sources previously claiming that Manchester United were determined to beat Tottenham to Branthwaite this summer.

Jarrad Branthwaite is wanted by Tottenham and Man Utd

The Daily Mail have now backed up Tottenham’s interest in the 22-year-old, claiming that the Lilywhites are expected to test the waters for the young defender.

They say that their London rivals, Chelsea, are also weighing an approach for Jarrad Branthwaite, but both clubs have been told by Everton that the defender is not for sale.

David Moyes has made it clear to the Toffees hierarchy that the England international needs to stay at the club ahead of their first campaign at their new stadium.

However, that does not mean that there is no chance of the centre-back leaving the Merseyside club as the outlet also sheds light on the player’s transfer stance.

The Mail explain that despite Everton’s firm stance, Branthwaite wants to make a step up this season.

It is revealed that the centre-back is keen on playing Champions League football next season to ensure that he finds a regular place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad, which is something Tottenham can offer after their Europa League final win against Manchester United.

The publication points out that Everton are being realistic and are ready to sell their academy graduate for an offer of around £70m this summer, particularly given that they are not in a comfortable position with respect to PSR.
