A new name has emerged from the pack in the race to become the new manager at Tottenham Hotspur, with Teamtalk reporting at Spurs have added Eddie Howe to their shortlist of potential candidates for the permanent job in N17.
Tottenham will scour the market for a permanent manager in the summer, after appointing Igor Tudor as interim boss for the rest of the 2025/26 season following the sacking of Thomas Frank.
GIVEMESPORT understands that Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi are the two leading candidates to take the job in the summer, but discussions will be had over other potential options.
Howe is one of those, with Teamtalk reporting that the Newcastle boss' name was added to the Spurs shortlist 'quietly' this week.
The Newcastle boss has come under pressure this season, for the first time in his five-year tenure really, with the Magpies struggling in 10th place in the Premier League table.
They have a UEFA Champions League play-off double header with Qarabag this week and next, and despite pressure on his shoulders, there is no real threat of the Englishman losing his job.
Howe ended the Magpies' 70-year trophy drought last season by guiding Newcastle to Carabao Cup success.
While Pochettino and De Zerbi will cost nothing to bring in, with the Argentinian out of contract following his role as head coach of the USA men's national team at the World Cup in the summer of 2026, and the Italian already out of work, having left his position at Marseille by mutual consent just hours before Frank was sacked by Spurs, the Lilywhites will have to pay compensation if they want to bring Howe to north London.
Howe signed an initial deal until 2024 with Newcastle when he arrived in 2021, but then put pen-to-paper on a 'long-term' contract in 2022, the full details of which are unknown.
Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Has Openly Praised Eddie Howe
According to Teamtalk, Howe's name has been "raised and discussed" as a potential option, which is sure to happen with a lot of managers ahead of what will be a big summer decision.
Howe has earned praise from plenty of big names in the game since making the move to St James' Park from Bournemouth, with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola describing the job he had done on Tyneside as "incredible".
Even Arsenal boss MIkel Arteta, who has had a number of run-ins with Howe and assistant coach Jason Tindall in the past, was glowing in his praise of the Newcastle boss.
Speaking last year, he said: "I think what Eddie, the staff and what they have done in the last few years is remarkable and they’ve been very, very consistent, very difficult to play against.
“They dominate almost every aspect of the game. They are great when they have to attack a low block, and they have a lot of presence on the board."
Does AI Think Eddie Howe Is A Good Fit For Tottenham?
Here's what ChatGPT said about Tottenham potentially making a move for Eddie Howe.
"Howe could be a solid and capable choice for Spurs due to his tactical growth and leadership qualities. But whether he would be the ideal fit to meet high immediate expectations at Tottenham depends on the club’s ambition level, patience and support structure he’s given. He might be seen as a project builder rather than an established elite trophy-winning manager."
