Tottenham have carried out several deals already ahead of the new Premier League season.

Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel have both joined Spurs permanently, having spent the second half of the last campaign on loan.

Elsewhere, Tottenham recently confirmed the signing of Japan international Kota Takai for £5million.

However, when it comes to their finances, there has been talk that the Lilywhites’ cash balance is dangerously low.

Tottenham financial situation explained

Matt Law has already spoken on Tottenham’s financial situation, stating that the North London club does not have much cash available to spend.

MORE SPURS STORIES

Now, football finance expert Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, has explained their position after another look at the recent accounts.

“It’s tricky because we can’t see the cash position day to day,” he said.

“We’re looking at it in the accounts, and if you look at the most recent set of accounts for 2024, Spurs had £79million in cash, but that it was £198 million the year before, and a lot of that again is linked to player movement, player trading, so it can become quite volatile.

“What I would also say against that is that’s still the highest cash balance in the Premier League for that particular accounting year, so even some of the bigger clubs don’t have £79million in the bank at year-end.

“Clubs like Villa and Palace have more like £8-9million in the bank at year-end, so that’s really tricky again because that’s the year-end cash position and that’s the only figure we can see.

“If we get noises that the cash is dangerously low, I think sometimes you might have to take that with a pinch of salt, because from the outside looking in, the cash position looks pretty good at year-end.

“Of course, it will fluctuate within a month and day to day, but at some point, they are going to be boosted by Champions League money.

“They are going to get a TV payment upfront as part of the Premier League deal, so there are points in the season where that cash is going to shoot up quite significantly, and then, of course, it’ll be a bit volatile.

“Ultimately, you’ve got to have cash to pay the wages, that’s really important, so they’ll be mindful of that and your day-to-day running costs.

“For everything we can see from the outside looking in, I wouldn’t suggest Spurs have got a cash flow problem.

“If there’s noise to suggest that the cash is not there to spend, that’s got to be fueled by something else for me, because the numbers in the accounts just don’t really support that.”

Spurs poised to spend big on Kudus

In and amongst all the talk of finances, Tottenham are striving to strike a deal with West Ham for Mohammed Kudus.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News that he believes West Ham would accept £65milion for Kudus.

While a deal is yet to be agreed, it seems like a matter of time until it officially goes through, which could end any talk of dangerous cash levels.
