Tottenham's decision to sell Will Lankshear was a glaring error of judgement.
That is the view of Spurs expert John Wenham, who believes he should have been kept around.
The Lilywhites secured a potential £20million deal from Middlesbrough, with an initial £10m, and a further £10m in add-ons.
However, Lankshear has eight goals in 11 matches for his new side, while Roberto De Zerbi's side are lagging at the bottom of the Premier League.
He did only manage one goal in six appearances for the North London side, but he was never given a real opportunity.
Wenham thinks that Lankshear would have been perfect for the Italian's system and is not satisfied with what firepower Spurs have after selling the 21-year-old in the summer.

The Lilywhite Rose account owner believes that the N17 side should have had more faith in Lankshear.
Asked if the transfer away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium reflected badly on the club, he blasted the club and explained why it did.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: "It does [look silly] when you exclude Richarlison out of choice as well, because it basically means all we have got now is a Dominic Solanke that's devoid of confidence, Mathys Tel is devoid of confidence either on the left wing or as a striker, and I think Marmoush is better suited playing as a 10 or off the wing than as a striker.
"We have actually let go of a striker that is bang in confidence, that's got the correct build to be a striker, especially in a De Zerbi system.
"He's English, he supports the club, and he's scoring goals for fun, it doesn't just look like a mistake, it looks like an utter disaster to have moved Lankshear on."

Lankshear is now being mentioned as a potential replacement for Harry Kane for England.
He notched his first goal for the Three Lions' Under-21 side in his first appearance for Lee Carsley's side on Friday.
If that materialises, then the call to allow him to depart will look even worse.
The hierarchy only have themselves to blame, and perhaps if the dreaded scenario does happen, then they will trust in youth more and allow others to make the step up, instead of losing them.
