Daniel Levy will be rubbing his hands together as Tottenham close in on the signing of a Celtic gem.

Levy is often at odds with Spurs supporters, and that tension could soon spill over and cause an issue for Thomas Frank.

However, the one thing that cannot be denied is that the Tottenham Chairman can identify a good opportunity, especially when it comes to potential transfers.

And it looks as though Levy has done exactly this once again, as Spurs push to sign a Celtic sensation.

Tottenham to exploit ‘loophole’ to sign Celtic’s Conall Glancy

Tottenham placed a lot of trust in their youth last season, which helped the North London club secure silverware for the first time in 17 years.

As a result, it seems as though Levy wants to continue to invest in young talent for the future.

As reported by Mark Hendry (7 June), Tottenham are expected to win the race for Celtic star Conall Glancy. The teenager is seen as one of the best young players in Scottish football, and the move is set to frustrate the Hoops’ hierarchy.

And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes this frustration could be owed to a loophole in Scotland, which Spurs are ready to exploit.

“This is a very highly regarded player,” Wenham said.

“I feel sorry for Rangers and Celtic, because owing to rules in Scotland, players can leave Scottish clubs when they’re 16, whereas in Ireland, the players can’t leave until they’re 18.

“Therefore, all these Scottish clubs are getting are nominal training fees, which is obviously very frustrating, because Rangers and Celtic have lost players like Rory Wilson and Ben Doak.

“If they could get these players to sign professional deals and play regularly, suddenly they’re worth millions, rather than thousands in compensation.

“However, as long as that loophole exists, English clubs will continue to exploit it. That seems to me what Tottenham are doing here, and Glancy will likely join the Under-18s.”

Tottenham need to invest in experienced players

The Lilywhites have had success with their investment in future stars, but the approach continues to be a gamble.

There is little way of knowing whether these youngsters will live up to expectations. In the meantime, it is unlikely that these players will be ready to perform in some of Spurs’ bigger UEFA Champions League fixtures.

As a result, Tottenham should look to strike a balance between signing senior players and young talent. This means investing in more experienced players this summer and taking good opportunities for youngsters as they arise.
