Tottenham have been told they will have to break their transfer record to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo this summer, talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has revealed.
The Europa League winners are eyeing reinforcements for their attacking line-up ahead of a new era under Thomas Frank and have reportedly earmarked Semenyo as an option.
The Ghana international has attracted Spurs’ attention after his career-best Premier League season, so much so that Semenyo’s advisers have reportedly met chairman Daniel Levy recently to discuss a potential move to North London.
However, Bournemouth are in no rush to sell Semenyo following Dean Huijsen’s move to Real Madrid for £50m and are standing firm on their hefty valuation of the 25-year-old winger.
Spurs Keeping Tabs on Antoine Semenyo
Bournemouth value the 25-year-old at £70million
According to Crook, Bournemouth are demanding £70m for Semenyo this summer and are unlikely to soften their stance amid growing market interest.
If Spurs meet the Cherries’ demands, a deal for Semenyo would make him the club’s most expensive signing ever, eclipsing the £65m they paid Bournemouth for Dominic Solanke last summer.
Semenyo, praised as ‘exceptional’, enjoyed a career-best Premier League campaign at the Vitality Stadium, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists in 37 appearances.
He ended the season on a particularly strong run of form, registering five goal contributions in his final seven league matches.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Semenyo has scored three goals in 27 appearances for Ghana.
Tottenham are now close to appointing Frank as their new manager, having reached an agreement over personal terms with the Dane.
Frank is set to become Spurs’ fourth permanent manager in four years and will succeed Ange Postecoglou, who was relieved of his duties last week despite leading the club to Europa League triumph in May.
