Tottenham Hotspur are interested in defender Dennis Cirkin, who could leave Sunderland in the January window, according to TBR Football.

At the time of writing, Tottenham are third in the Premier League, having lost just one of their opening six league matches to begin Thomas Frank's reign in charge of the club, the Dane having been drafted in to replace Ange Postecoglou following the Australian's sacking in the summer.

Frank proved himself to be one of the Premier League's better managers with Brentford, something that has generally continued so far with Tottenham. Not including any players who were previously at the club on loan, Spurs spent big on creative duo Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons in the latest transfer window whilst recruiting Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich.

The Lilywhites have a well-stocked squad, but it is no surprise that Tottenham are already exploring potential additions to make in January, when the transfer window re-opens. It now appears that the North London club are eyeing a Premier League defender.

Spurs Like Cirkin

TBR Football have reported that Dennis Cirkin could be sold by Sunderland this winter, the defender being within the final year of his current deal. Since debuting professionally in 2021, Cirkin has spent the entirety of his career with the Black Cats, helping them earn promotion to the Premier League last summer.

Since their promotion, however, Cirkin has scarcely played, having struggled with injury problems since the latter stages of their promotion-winning campaign. As such, having signed both Reinildo and Arthur Masuaku, it now appears that Sunderland are ready to lose the England youth international.

With "no talks regarding extending his contract," as per TBR Football, Cirkin is on the radar of numerous teams, including Tottenham, with whom Cirkin spent his time as a youth player.

Spurs have both Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence to operate as left-backs at the time of writing and as good as Cirkin is, it is hard to see him dislodging them both.

Should Spurs push for Cirkin, though, it would allow Spence more opportunities to play on his natural right-hand side, therefore affording Archie Gray, for example, the chance to spend more time in midfield. With his contract situation, Cirkin may be available for a cheap price and should he stay fit, could prove to be a shrewd addition for Frank's side if Spurs pursue a deal.
