Tottenham are showing strong interest in a summer move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to Fichajes.
The Europa League winners have reportedly identified the 24-year-old defender as a potential replacement for Cristian Romero, who has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.
Guehi was the subject of a rejected £70m bid from Spurs in January, as Palace were reluctant to sell their captain and cornerstone of Oliver Glasner’s back four mid-season.
The Eagles are not in as strong a negotiating position this time, as Guehi has just over 12 months left on his contract and could be available for just £34m.
Tottenham Keen on Signing Marc Guehi
If Cristian Romero departs this summer
According to Fichajes, Tottenham see Guehi as a ‘natural replacement’ for Romero and are willing to accelerate negotiations to secure the 24-year-old this summer.
The Lilywhites are growing concerned that ‘significant’ offers are on the way for Romero and are anticipating his departure amid interest from long-term admirers Atletico Madrid.
Guehi, praised as ‘world-class’, joined Palace from Chelsea in 2021 and has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League during his four seasons at Selhurst Park.
The England international has amassed 155 appearances for the Eagles to date, scoring eight goals and providing four assists.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Guehi has won 23 caps for England since his first call-up in March 2022.
Tottenham are likely to resolve manager Ange Postecoglou’s future before pursuing any signings, as the Australian is still uncertain to be in charge next season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the North London club are considering their options internally at the moment and are expected to make a managerial decision ‘very soon’.
