Tottenham Hotspur have been alerted to the potential availability of a rising Ligue 1 midfielder, though the club are expected to face stiff competition from Premier League rivals in the January transfer window.
The January transfer window is expected to be a busy period for Tottenham Hotspur as the club aims to strengthen their squad for the second half of the campaign.
The Tottenham board have reportedly made under-pressure manager Thomas Frank a promise that he will be backed in the winter market, despite ongoing speculation regarding his future at the club.
Frank requires reinforcements in several areas of the pitch, given the recent struggles of the team, but fresh reports have now claimed that Tottenham are specifically eyeing a defensive midfielder to bolster their engine room.
Tottenham join race for Mamadou Sangare ahead of winter window
According to TeamTalk, Tottenham are reported to be among a host of clubs aiming to sign Mamadou Sangare from Lens in the January transfer window.
However, the north London side is expected to face stiff competition from Chelsea and Manchester United, who are also monitoring the player’s situation.
Sangare has caught the eye of several Premier League sides who have watched him in recent weeks, having made 14 starts and one substitute appearance for Lens in Ligue 1 so far this season, contributing one goal and one assist in the process.

The Mali international will be heading out for the Africa Cup of Nations, where he will meet up with Yves Bissouma, and it is claimed that there is an expectation that Premier League clubs may formalise their interest once the tournament concludes on 18 January.
Yves Bissouma’s uncertainty drives Sangare transfer plans
Sangare, 23, could quite easily become a replacement for Bissouma, whose future at Tottenham remains uncertain following significant off-field issues.
Bissouma was seen inhaling laughing gas at a party for the second time in his Spurs career, and the club are reported to be open to parting ways with the midfielder following the incident.
Holding midfielders are rare and command significant fees, meaning that if Spurs are to land Sangare, they will likely have to pay considerably more than the £6.6m (€8m) Lens paid to sign him from Rapid Wien.
