Tottenham have now been left with the unenviable task of trying to replace both Son Heung-min and James Maddison in the final few weeks of the transfer window.
The club captain recently left to join LAFC after a decade-long spell in N17, while Maddison is facing another lengthy period on the sidelines.
Tottenham have been eyeing a move for Morgan Rogers in the last few days, with the Aston Villa star seen as a capable replacement for either or both of the absentees.
Daniel Levy will know that only big-money signings will do if the Lilywhites are to adequately replace the duo, who were two of their most important players.

Tottenham tipped to pay £110m for Rogers amid clear Villa stance
Spurs have been quoted around £100million for Rogers, and that would require them to break their previous transfer record if they are serious about getting a deal done.
They are the latest Premier League side to show an interest in the England international, who has gone from strength to strength throughout the last two seasons.
However, the Villans are also thought to be lining up the offer of a new contract for the 23-year-old, which could potentially throw a significant spanner in the works for the North Londoners.
Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that Spurs would need to go above and beyond the £100m mark if they were to have any hope of their counterparts entertaining a deal for Rogers.
“Rogers is certainly the kind of player who is in the class of Son and Maddison,” King said.
“The only way Villa would even think about getting rid of him is if there was an offer in excess of £100m.
“I think it would take more than £100m, I think Spurs would be up to £110m.
“He’s come on in the last eighteen months, he’s an England international and he’s been central in transforming Villa and getting them into Europe.
“It would certainly take more than £100m to get him out of there.”
Rogers links hand Levy big decision
The departures of Son and Maddison leave a gaping hole at Tottenham, and the only way that they will be able to fill that is by spending big.
Levy has not exactly been notorious for flaunting his cash over the years, but he now faces a huge decision over his next move.
If he were to table the cash for a player like Rogers, he would be handing Thomas Frank a figurehead for his team and somebody to build his plans around.
However, if the replacements either come from within or are not seen as statement signings, then it could easily create the impression that Levy is failing to back the new boss.
