Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Brazilian defender Souza from Santos.

According to a report via Somosfanaticos, Tottenham have submitted an official offer to sign the 17-year-old left back, but the offer has been turned down. The Brazilian outfit will hold out for a fee of around €17 million for the talented young defender. It remains to be seen whether Spurs are prepared to return with an improved offer.

Tottenham fail with an offer for Souza

“The official offer that arrived at Santos in recent days was from Tottenham, and SFC asked for 17 million euros for 70% of the economic rights. And Tottenham’s offer didn’t even come close to that,” reported Lucas Musetti.

The report claims that the young defender has been likened to Marcelo. He is expected to be the natural heir to the former Real Madrid and Brazilian national team defender. There is no doubt that he is a phenomenal talent with a bright future, and Tattenham would do well to secure his signature.

Souza would be a superb signing

They are looking to build a team for the future, and signing one of the best young players in South America would be a wise decision. The reported asking price is quite reasonable as well. Tottenham have the finances to pay up, and it will be interesting to see if they return with an improved offer in the coming weeks.

Souza is likely to be attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League. It would be a huge opportunity, and he will look to prove himself at the highest level.

Tottenham have an ambitious project and a talented team. They will hope to fight for major trophies regularly, and they need young talents who can develop into future stars. They do not have the finances to buy multiple established stars, and therefore, they should invest in young talents with huge potential.
