Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a setback in the race for Robin Risser, as Newcastle United move up the pecking order.

This could be Guglielmo Vicario’s final season with Tottenham Hotspur, as the Italian continues to attract interest from sides in Italy.

Inter Milan and Juventus are keen on signing Vicario in the summer, and should he depart, that will bring an end to his three-year stay in north London.

Spurs, on the other hand, are preparing for life without the Italian shot-stopper.

In recent weeks, Tottenham have been linked with several goalkeepers, but one name has stood out – Robin Risser, who has left many Premier League clubs, including Spurs, salivating.

With so many clubs in England keen on Robin Risser, Spurs were never going to have a free run at the 21-year-old. Newcastle United are also looking to strengthen at the back and has been named among the sides interested in Risser.

Football Insider has now claimed that Tottenham run the risk of losing out on the French goalkeeper this summer.

MORE SPURS STORIES

As it stands, Newcastle pose one of Spurs’ biggest threats, with the Magpies still pushing for Champions League qualification, making them a more likely destination for Risser.

It is understood that European football could play a big role in the decision-making process of the young shot-stopper.

At the moment, Tottenham’s poor league position, which has them in a relegation scrap, could work against them in their pursuit of the 21-year-old.

Newcastle, while in a much better position than Tottenham in the league table, could also miss out on Risser altogether.

RC Lens are challenging for the Ligue 1 title and remain on course for Champions League qualification, leaving them under no pressure to sell the 21-year-old.

In fact, Lens are expected to hold out for £29.7 million (€34.5 million) to sanction a sale.

Risser has been in top form this season, keeping the most clean sheets in Ligue 1, with 10 to his name this campaign.
