Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly seen their season dealt another devastating injury blow following news that Xavi Simons will miss the remainder of the survival battle, sparking a furious backlash from supporters directed at the club’s medical department.

Tottenham Hotspur secured their first win of 2026 after 15 attempts with a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium, but it was a triumph that came at a cost.

In the clash against Wolves, two Spurs players picked up injuries, with Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons both forced off the field.

Roberto De Zerbi’s update on both Solanke and Simons was initially positive; however, subsequent reports have delivered concerning news regarding Simons’ knock.

Tottenham fans react as Xavi Simons ACL injury confirmed after Wolves clash

When the attacking midfielder went down against Wolves, it appeared to be a knee problem, which was the immediate concern for De Zerbi.

However, it proved to be a serious issue, with the Dutchman stretchered off after Spurs’ medical staff initially attempted to have him run it off.

It has now been confirmed that Simons has suffered an ACL injury, which will keep him out until next year and effectively rule him out for the rest of the season.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The Dutchman now joins Cristian Romero, Mohammed Kudus, Wilson Odobert, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Ben Davies as players whose seasons have effectively ended.

Tottenham fans have been left distraught by the latest reports and have taken to social media to voice their frustrations.

Reacting to the situation on X, supporters expressed their anger at both the injury and the handling of it, with one fan stating: “4 acl tears in one season this is just f***ing absurd now”, while another aimed criticism at the medical staff, saying: “Our medical staff had this guy running”.

A third supporter added: “When people look back on this season it’s gonna sound fake”, while another raised concerns about recruitment, commenting: “Gutted for him. Also this amount of injuries is ridiculous on a level that will make players not wanting to sign for us. Among many other things obviously”.

Further frustration was directed towards the club’s medical department, with one fan calling for action: “Our medical department out here ruining careers. They dont just need to be sacked, but sued as well”,

while another added: “even on what was supposed to be a good day, we’re not given a moments bliss”. A final supporter concluded: “First people that should be sacked is the medical team, 2yrs of ACLs and then still getting players to try and “run it off” F***ING AMATEURS”.

Spurs injury crisis deepens as options thin for Roberto De Zerbi

Simons’ injury, alongside Solanke’s, leaves Tottenham with 11 players unavailable heading into the final four games of the season.

Spurs remain embroiled in a relegation scrap, sitting two points adrift of safety despite their weekend win, and the last thing they need is for injuries to weaken the squad – but when it rains, it pours in north London.

Roberto De Zerbi will now have to find solutions within his squad. For Solanke, both Richarlison and Randal Kolo Muani are direct replacements, while for Simons, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray and Conor Gallagher remain options to fill the number ten role.

James Maddison, who has made the bench in the last two outings, remains unfit and is only in the matchday squad to provide a confidence boost for his teammates. It is certainly sad to see yet another Spurs player suffer a season-ending injury.
