Lucas Bergvall had a game to forget as Tottenham faced Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Stade Louis II hosted Spurs on 22 October, with the hosts dominating the opening 45 minutes, creating some brilliant opportunities.

The Ligue 1 club were unable to take advantage of the North London outfit’s poor display, but Thomas Frank certainly had Archie Gray to thank after the first half, with the youngster making some pivotal interceptions.

While most players didn’t live up to expectations for the Lilywhites, the Sweden international wasn’t good enough for them in the middle of the park.

Lucas Bergvall shocking in Monaco vs Tottenham

Bergvall struggled in the opening 45 minutes against Monaco, with one fan on X calling for him to be replaced at the break after a “sloppy” performance.

MORE SPURS STORIES

The 19-year-old played as the furthest of the midfield trio, with another supporter feeling Frank shouldn’t play him in the number 10 role.

In the first half, the midfielder gave the ball away in a dangerous area, leading to an opportunity for Folarin Balogun, who was unable to beat Guglielmo Vicario, and a Lilywhite faithful admitted the youngster looked “off it”.

With Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur playing in the engine room, a fan didn’t think Bergvall was “mature enough” to be the creative force for Spurs.

One supporter feels Frank doesn’t have much to work with in the North London outfit’s current squad and admitted the Swedish national needed more time in N17.

While the youngster was termed “disappointing”, one Lilywhites faithful also criticised Richarlison for his underwhelming performance before the break.

Joao Palhinha only undisputed starter for Spurs’ midfield

Joao Palhinha has been a brilliant signing for Spurs, with the Bayern Munich loanee exceeding expectations in N17.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Tottenham sign the Portuguese midfielder permanently next summer after his early-season success under Frank.

The 30-year-old has brought much-needed resoluteness to the North London outfit’s engine room and has also chipped in with a few goals.

Apart from Palhinha, the other midfield options at the Danish manager’s disposal have to fight for their place in the starting lineup going forward.
