There has been a big announcement regarding Tottenham fan favourite and former academy coach, Jermain Defoe, as the Lilywhites go about finding a successor to Igor Tudor.

The Spurs hierarchy is under huge pressure as they face what could be an era-defining decision for the club.

The Lilywhites have just seven games to save their season, and another mistake could result in the club being relegated for the first time in nearly half a century.

There have been suggestions that fan favourites, such as Glenn Hoddle, Harry Redknapp and Chris Hughton, were potential options at Spurs, but another Tottenham legend is no longer an option.

Tottenham idol Jermain Defoe accepts first managerial role

Jermain Defoe is not only idolised for his goalscoring exploits across his two spells at Tottenham during his playing career, but he also previously served as an academy coach at Hotspur Way.

It is unclear whether the 43-year-old’s name was ever discussed by the Spurs hierarchy as a potential interim or assistant, but he is no longer an option for the club.

This is because Defoe has now been announced as the head coach of Woking FC, who play in the National League, the fifth tier of English football, in what is the former Tottenham man’s first foray into management.

Another Spurs striker was considered as a Tudor replacement

While there have not been any reports suggesting that Defoe was on Tottenham’s wishlist, one of the Englishman’s striker partners at Spurs does appear to have interested the North Londoners.

Some outlets have claimed that Robbie Keane is being considered as an option to replace Igor Tudor on the back of the Irishman’s impressive work over the last two years at Ferencvaros. Sources have suggested that Keane would only leave Ferencvaros if Tottenham offer him a permanent role.
