Tottenham legend Rafael Van der Vaart has been a fan of Mohammed Kudus for a long time, and he shared what he heard about the winger from Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars in 2023, which will make Spurs fans very excited.

Spurs were linked with a whole host of Premier League attackers over the last month, but in the end, the Tottenham fans were delighted with the signing that the Lilywhites have managed to get through the door.

Kudus has joined Spurs from West Ham for £55m, and the deal represents a bargain, given that the Hammers wanted at least £60m for Kudus.

Some sources even suggested that West Ham wanted to add a Tottenham tax to the Kudus deal, but in the end, Daniel Levy and the Spurs hierarchy managed to use their strong negotiating position to push through a favourable deal.

Marc Overmars expected Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus to become a €100m player

Back in 2023, Rafael van der Vaart revealed that then Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars had told him that he expects the Ghana international to become a €100m (£87m) player in the future.

The former Spurs midfielder explained that even though the winger was not pulling up any trees at the Eredivisie giants at the time, Overmars had seen enough to be convinced that he could become one of the best attackers in the world.

Van der Vaart told Studio Voetbal (via Voetbalzone): “I first saw Kudus during a friendly. He (Marc Overmars, Ajax’s sporting director) said: ‘Raf, honestly. This is my best signing ever. This is going to be worth a hundred million’. He believed in him.

“He hasn’t shown it yet, of course, but he hasn’t really been deployed to his full potential. We only saw what he could do at the World Cup. He actually has everything a footballer needs in his position: strength, speed… He’s the very best player Ajax has.”

Kudus put pressure on West Ham to push through Spurs transfer

According to reports, Kudus handed in a transfer request to West Ham to push through a move to Tottenham.

The winger even allegedly showed up to pre-season training late on two occasions to force the East London club’s hand to accept Spurs’ offer.
