Guglielmo Vicario admits that there is a real feeling of togetherness at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the Europa League final, with the goalkeeper remarking that everyone at the club is determined to create history next Wednesday.

Tottenham Hotspur have been battered and bruised in the league for much of the season, with Spurs having created a new club record for most losses in a Premier League season.

However, all that will be forgotten if the Lilywhites can overcome Manchester United and get their hands on the club’s first piece of silverware since 2008.

The players and the coaching staff know that they have an opportunity to write their names in the history books, and Vicario admits the group are determined to achieve something special.

Guglielmo Vicario says Tottenham want to create history

The Italian pointed out that there is a real family feel at the club and admitted that Spurs deserve to have something to show for the hard work that they have put in over the last few years.

The 28-year-old lavished praise on Ange Postecoglou for what he has given to this side and suggested that Tottenham want to beat United by playing the kind of football that the Australian has instilled in the side.

Vicario said (via Hayters): “I think the most important thing is, for us as a group, is to try to create history in a certain way and try to do it our way, especially on what we’ve tried to create it over the last two seasons under Ange.

“He gives us everything, and we try to replicate this every day, not accepting some losses, but trying to do our best but sometimes you have to understand, sometimes the opponents are better than you, and this is, for me, the toughest thing to accept.

“But I think we tried every day, in every session, in every game to to deal with that as a big family, as a big unit, and sometimes we couldn’t cope with that but the important thing now is we have a big, massive game ahead, and we’re looking forward to do it as a family.”

Vicario says league struggles should not diminish European achievement

Over recent weeks, Postecoglou has railed against those trying to downplay Tottenham’s Europa League journey.

Vicario has now also backed up his manager, insisting that Spurs’ league struggles do not diminish what they have been able to accomplish in this competition and admitting that the players are determined to bring the trophy back to N17.

The Spurs number one added: “What we did in the European Cup cannot be diminished for sure, because we have the opportunity now to play a final, and I don’t know how many times during a career this can happen.

“So it’s a big opportunity for us players and for everyone involved with this football club, for the fans. We have this desire to bring the trophy here, because for us, it will mean to be on the photos on the wall inside the stadium. So it’s something we will look forward to trying to do.”
