Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a Ligue 1 starlet, who registered 17 goal contributions last season, but they face competition from five other Premier League clubs for the player’s signature this summer.
It is clear that Thomas Frank is prioritising strengthening his attack this summer, with the Lilywhites linked with a whole host of wingers over the past few weeks.
Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo and Eberechi Eze are all on Tottenham’s radar if reports over the last two weeks are to be believed.
Additionally, some sources continue to suggest Spurs are among the leading contenders to land Xavi Simons. It has now emerged that another exciting wide man is also being eyed by the North London club.
Tottenham battle several Premier League clubs for Malick Fofana
According to ESPN, Tottenham have turned their attention to Lyon winger Malick Fofana who set Ligue 1 alight in the 2024-25 campaign.
Fofana registered 11 goals and six assists for the French club last term across all competitions, and unsurprisingly, this has seemingly brought the Belgium international to the attention of several clubs in England.
The report says that Tottenham Hotspur are one of half a dozen Premier League sides chasing the winger, with Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Fulham and Brighton also keen on landing the 20-year-old.
MORE SPURS STORIES
According to the outlet, the Blues enquired about Fofana’s availability earlier this week and were informed that the winger would cost around £40m-£45m.
Fofana’s stance and Lyon’s price tag explained
ESPN reveal that several of the winger’s suitors view that fee as ‘significant’ considering the Lyon man’s lack of experience, but the French club believe that the player’s high potential justifies that asking price.
It is explained that Fofana ideally wanted to spend one more season developing at the Groupama Stadium before exiting the club next summer.
However, Lyon are desperate to raise funds to balance their books and have thus put the youngster in the shop window.
