Daniel Levy will have to shell out a few extra pounds over the coming weeks after the Lucas Bergvall bonus payments owed by Tottenham were activated following the club’s Europa League win.

Tottenham Hotspur had a whole host of players step up across their Europa League journey this season, including one youngster who did not play the final.

It was in the group stages of the Europa League that Lucas Bergvall first got regular starts under his belt for Tottenham, and little did we know at the time just how good a season the teenager would end up having.

Bergvall has swept all the end-of-the-season awards at Spurs, which is an unbelievable achievement for a teenager who has come straight from Swedish football, and it has meant that his former club Djurgardens IF are in line for a big financial boost.

How much do Tottenham have to pay for Lucas Bergvall?

It was reported a few months ago that Tottenham paid an initial €9.8m (£8.1m) for Lucas Bergvall, with further add-ons worth €9.3m (£7.6m) which would be activated when the youngster reached certain milestones.

Spurs will have to pay that full amount after Bergvall ended his first season in North London as Europa League champion, with Djurgardens IF sporting director Bosse Andersson confirming that all bonuses have been met.

He told Fotbollskanalen about the Lucas Bergvall transfer to Tottenham: “I can confirm that all the bonus parts that are included have clicked in. Lucas has had such progress both in the Premier League and in Europe and has been involved in so many matches. We can say that what we thought it would take several years has happened very quickly.”

When asked whether it’s the biggest sale in Swedish football history, Andersson explained: “I don’t know, but it wouldn’t surprise me. If I had to go by my own admission, we’re number one there.”

Bergvall makes a statement on Ange Postescoglou’s future

Over the last few days, a number of Spurs players have come out in support of their head coach as the speculation continues over the managerial role at Tottenham.

The Swede has become the latest to do so, with Bergvall insisting that Postecoglou deserves a third season after what he achieved.
