Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on one of the most exciting young talents in French football, Malick Fofana, and his club are now increasingly open to a January sale.

The left-wing role has been a problem for Thomas Frank at the start of the season, with none of his attacking options making the position their own.

That may be why it has emerged that the Lilywhites are turning their attention to a 20-year-old winger, who is setting Ligue 1 alight.

It was reported a couple of days ago that Tottenham had expressed an interest in signing Lyon’s Malick Fofana, and the North London club have now found out that the player may indeed be on the market in January.

A new report in CaughtOffside confirms that Spurs indeed have their eye on the 20-year-old, but they have not made any formal moves for the winger so far.

Fofana has 17 goals and seven assists since joining Lyon from Gent in January of last year, and is now considered to be one of Ligue 1’s best young attacking talents.

His impressive displays have not gone unnoticed, with Spurs facing competition from Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Inter Milan for the Belgium international.

The outlet asserts that Lyon have set a £50 million asking price for the winger ahead of the January transfer window.

Lyon have already rejected several advances for Fofana

CaughtOffside say that Fulham and Everton both tabled offers close to €45m (£39.1m) for the 20-year-old in the summer, but Lyon turned down those advances.

Liverpool made concrete contact with the winger’s representatives, and the Belgian also came close to joining Bayern Munich in the summer, but the move eventually collapsed.

The publication adds that while Lyon remains relaxed about the growing interest in the former Gent man, both the French club and the player’s entourage understand that a transfer to a bigger club is ‘inevitable’.
