Tottenham continue to establish strong competition within their ranks as a goalkeeper joins from Manchester City.
Daniel Levy will be hoping that Spurs’ defensive performances under Ange Postecoglou are a thing of the past.
The Lilywhites scored 64 goals in the Premier League last season. However, they also conceded 65, the fifth most of any side in the division.
Guglielmo Vicario was one of the players who suffered the most, keeping three fewer clean sheets compared to his debut campaign.
Farren Doran signs two-year scholarship at Tottenham
As reported by Lilywhite Rose via Instagram (30 June), Tottenham have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Farren Doran.
MORE SPURS STORIES
In a follow-up via X (2 July), Lilywhite Rose shared that Doran was one of several youngsters to have signed a two-year scholarship at Tottenham.
The youngster is considered a talented prospect, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes he will provide healthy competition in North London.
“Blake Irow is the other goalkeeper in the group,” Wenham said.
“This is the fourth signing we’ve made from City’s academy in the last two years or so. It’s interesting because Irow is an England youth international, and he will be expected to be the starting keeper for the Under-18s.
“Therefore, Doran will have a task to get in the side. However, he will certainly provide competition, and I’m sure over pre-season we will get an indication of who will be the number one for the Under-18s.”
Thomas Frank to promote academy stars
There is the belief that Thomas Frank will look to promote several academy talents to the first team next season.
This comes after Mikey Moore’s impressive breakthrough campaign, and it has been suggested that Luca Williams-Barnett could be the latest player to follow in his footsteps.
The 16-year-old scored 20 goals and provided 12 assists last season. This could encourage Frank to take a closer look during pre-season.
After the success of Moore, there is a growing sense that it is only the beginning of academy stars climbing the ranks at Tottenham.
