Tottenham will take on Paris Saint-Germain for the UEFA Super Cup in Udine on Wednesday.

The Lilywhites earned the right to compete for this trophy against Champions League winners PSG by winning the Europa League last season.

Thomas Frank’s side are lacking firepower after selling Son Heung-min and losing James Maddison to injury. Dominic Solanke is also a doubt due to his own injury problems.

Perhaps Frank would have imagined having more of his own signings available for this match, but the transfer window hasn’t panned out that way for him.

Nevertheless, everyone associated with Tottenham is likely to be buoyed by the latest update to come out of the PSG camp.

Donnarumma to miss UEFA Super Cup after contract talks break down

Gianluigi Donnarumma will be left out of PSG squad for the game against Tottenham as he has refused to sign a new contract.

It is being reported that Donnarumma will leave definitely Paris either during this transfer window for a fee or next summer as a free agent.

It’s echoes of Kylian Mbappe all over again for PSG. This news could easily harm morale in the squad ahead of Wednesday’s Super Cup match.

The fact that he has been left out of the squad certainly plays into Spurs’ hands.

Tottenham could make an audacious bid to sign Donnarumma

Donnarumma has been described “world-class” by Carlo Ancelotti and is certainly one of the best goalkeepers in the game today.

He single-handedly bailed out his team on so many occasions in the Champions League last year, and is certainly one of the best goalkeepers in the game today.

Spurs would undeniably love to have him in goal for them if they had any chance of signing him.

A £26million price tag has supposedly been put on the Italian’s head after these contract disputes. So, what’s stopping Tottenham from launching an audacious bid for him?

They’re a Champions League team now. Qualification for this tournament has given them the funds to afford players like Donnarumma.

Crazier things have happened in football.

Tottenham must attack PSG to stand any chance of winning UEFA Super Cup

Former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou masterminded the perfect game plan to win the Europa League final against Manchester United.

His Spurs side got an early goal from Brennan Johnson then sat deep and defended their lead. ‘Angeball’ was laid to rest on the Australian’s final game as manager and it worked a treat.

However, it’s hard to see a world where that strategy would work against Paris Saint-Germain in Udine on Wednesday.

The French champions showed in the Champions League that their attack is far too strong to be thwarted by a low block.

Thomas Frank should instead do what Chelsea did to PSG in the Club World Cup and stun them with their own attack.

There’s no Son, there’s no Maddison, and possibly no Solanke, but Frank may still have enough in reserve to trouble his opponents if he dares to take the game to them.
