When Mohammed Kudus went off injured in the 19th minute of Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against Sunderland, everyone associated with the club would have feared the worst.
Kudus has played in all but one of Tottenham’s Premier League games since completing his switch from West Ham, while featuring prominently in their Champions League campaign.
The Ghanaian has arguably been overused by Thomas Frank in 2025/26, with the Dane preferring him over Brennan Johnson on the right flank.
Spurs sold Johnson to Crystal Palace for £35million on Friday, and while that was seen as the correct decision, a potential injury to Kudus has left them dangerously short on the right flank.
Thomas Frank issues Mohammed Kudus injury update
Kudus has been instrumental for Tottenham this term, and the 25-year-old has produced nine goal involvements across all competitions.
MORE SPURS STORIES
A driving force with his purposeful ball-carrying and exceptional agility, the former West Ham winger is key to their fast breaks in transition, and without him, they carry much less of a threat.
In Tottenham’s 1-1 draw against Sunderland, Kudus was replaced by Randal Kolo Muani in the first half, and speaking after the game, Frank backed the decision to offload Johnson to Palace and provided an update on the Ghanaian’s injury.
“Decisions are made, and decisions I’m backing in every aspect,” Frank said in his post-match press conference.
“There’s always more bigger picture stuff to some of those decisions, and sometimes they can look like perfect timing, sometimes they look like not so perfect timing.
“We took the decision before Mo [Kudus] got injured, we don’t know how it (Kudus’ injury) looks like, so I think that’s one thing. And sometimes when you take that decision, sometimes you can’t delay them if you want to, for example.”
In some cases, no news is good news, but supporters will worry that fatigue has caught up with Kudus and that he could be out for a few weeks.
If the worst-case scenario does unfold, then Spurs must rush to sign a couple of forwards, and one of those should be someone they wanted in the summer.
Spurs could go for Maghnes Akilouche
Tottenham were strongly interested in Monaco winger Maghnes Akilouche before the 2025/26 campaign started, and unfortunately, the French giants wanted to keep him beyond the summer.
But the Lilywhites have continued to keep tabs on his progress, and according to TEAMtalk, Spurs were in attendance watching Akilouche on Saturday during his side’s 3-1 defeat against Lyon.
The talented Frenchman started as a number 10, but is capable of playing on either flank, with such versatility arguably appealing to Frank.
The report claims that Monaco are demanding a fee upwards of £50m for the 23-year-old after watching him produce eight goal involvements in 23 matches this term.
Akilouche has been dubbed ‘insane’ since becoming one of Europe’s most sought-after wingers, and a potential switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could appeal to him.
