Tottenham Hotspur signed Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window.
The 22-year-old Netherlands international is highly rated across Europe, and he has done quite well in the Bundesliga. He will be expected to hit the ground running in the Premier League and help Tottenham improve in the final third.
Journalist Raphael Honigstein has now revealed that the Netherlands International is a quality player with a bright future. However, there is a concerning quality which forced the German club to cash in on him when a lucrative proposal arrived. The player is quite inconsistent, and it will be interesting to see if he can get over that issue at Tottenham.
Xavi Simons labelled as inconsistent
Honigstein told Echo of Glory: “He solves a lot of problems for any team looking for creativity, he can go past players and open space, he’s a great passer as well. Absolute talent and quality.
“What is lacking is a little bit of consistency, that is why Leipzig were ok with the idea of selling, they are a selling club at this level, but I think in this particular case, they quite wanted him to be gone.
“But he’s 22, there’s a lot of progress still to be made, a lot of development both on and off the pitch for him.”
Simons has time to get over his inconsistencies
There is no doubt that Simons is a quality player with a bright future. With the right guidance, he could develop into a future star for Tottenham. The lack of consistency might not be a major issue right now. He is quite young, and it is normal for talented young players to be inconsistent. However, he has plenty of room for development, and Thomas Frank could nurture him into a top-quality player.
He is capable of operating in multiple attacking roles, and his versatility will be a bonus for Tottenham. It will be interesting to see if he can adapt to the Premier League quickly.
