Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in the Aston Villa defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara.
The 25-year-old has done quite well for Aston Villa since joining the club, and he’s on the radar of Arsenal as well. According to TBR Football, Arsenal and Tottenham were keeping tabs on him, but Aston Villa are unwilling to sanction his departure this summer.
Tottenham made enquiry for Boubacar Kamara
Graeme Bailey has revealed that Tottenham really liked the French midfielder, and they have made an enquiry for him. However, a move seems unlikely this summer. They could use a quality defensive midfielder, especially with Yves Bissouma likely to leave the club in the coming weeks.
Bailey said: “On Boubacar Kamara – I’m told he was firmly on Arsenal’s long list of midfield targets this summer. Tottenham also really liked him and made an enquiry, but it quickly became clear he wouldn’t be leaving Aston Villa.
“One interesting note: PSG were said to be very impressed with Kamara during their Champions League meetings with Villa, and they’re now expected to keep tabs on him going forward.”
Can Spurs sign a defensive midfielder?
The 25-year-old would have helped them in the middle of the park. He could shield the back four and allow the creative players to operate with more freedom. He would have helped Tottenham tighten up defensively. They were quite vulnerable at the back last season, and they cannot fight for major trophies without improving defensively.
It will be interesting to see if they decide to move on to other targets now. A quality defensive midfielder should be one of their priorities this summer.
Similarly, Arsenal need more depth in that area of the pitch as well. Both clubs have the resources to sign a quality player, and they will be able to offer him UEFA Champions League football for the upcoming campaign as well.
As far as Kamara is concerned, Aston Villa are looking to build a formidable squad, and they cannot afford to lose their key players. It is no surprise that they have turned down the opportunity to sell him.
