Sonny stood in the BMO Stadium and had a heartwarming chat, and naturally, the subject of Tottenham came up. In a recent interview, Son opened up about his deep connection to Spurs and his intentions to return one day. He stated that it will be emotional.

Bonded to Tottenham, Son wants to do the right thing

This reflects his ongoing bond with the club and the fan base. Earlier, during his farewell, he expressed regret over not getting a proper in-person goodbye at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium due to the rushed transfer:

“I definitely want to [say goodbye in person], but because of all the transfer was going on & the last game was in Korea so I want to say goodbye in front of them, also they deserve to see me in physically to say goodbye.”

LAFC manager Steve Cherundolo has downplayed immediate return rumours, noting Son is “focusing on the team.” Which is a perfectly reasonable comment. Teammates like Ben Davies have echoed the sentiment, describing it as “quite strange” without him and highlighting how tough the decision was. For now, Son is settling in LA, but his words suggest Tottenham will “always a part of my life.”

Fan opinion on Reddit was unanimous: he’s a much-loved legend. LogocKennedy said:

“No one has exemplified both individual greatness and love for Spurs from a player like Sonny in my lifetime, bar Ledley King, whom I was a bit too young to fully appreciate at the time. Out of the Spurs players of the last 15 years, no one deserves a mural or a statue more than him.”

The Tackle Zone added:

Standing ovation on 7 minutes. Will be impossible to get a ticket when this is announced.

Will Daniel Levy’s absence make a difference?

One cannot help but wonder if the change in regime at Tottenham will be an influential factor in how the club interacts with former players.

Rumours were rife that Daniel Levy didn’t treat Harry Kane particularly well when he left for Germany, and so it would come as little surprise to discover that Sonny has unfinished business on the farewell front.

We all recall the sad image of Pochettino leaving his goodbye on a tactics board…
