Tottenham Hotspur have made a strong start to the Premier League season with two wins in two, including a 2-0 success against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, but it’s fair to say that they are still lacking some offensive depth.

Mohammed Kudus has been their only noteworthy signing so far up top and Thomas Frank will undoubtedly look to add to his squad in the week that remains in the summer transfer window, more so after losing out on Eberechi Eze.

Defensa Central has reported that Tottenham Hotspur have been keen on signing Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes and are closing in on a surprise loan deal to secure the two-time Champions League winner’s services this month.

Spurs are set to cover the entirety of Rodrygo’s wages, the source has added, and a loan could shortly be agreed as Real Madrid have failed to find a suitor to meet their £86 million price tag in spite of interest from Arsenal and Liverpool too.

Rodrygo loan claims flawed

Xabi Alonso did not use Rodrygo Goes in Real Madrid’s first game in La Liga but responded by saying that the forward remains a key member of his plans, and also included him in the squad for their away trip to Real Oviedo last night.

A loan deal for Rodrygo, however, is difficult to picture considering that he is a valued squad member in the Spanish capital, and therefore, the board might only let him go permanently as such a transfer would bear them some financial fruit too.

Real Madrid’s only offensive signing this summer has been Franco Mastantuono, 18, and Rodrygo’s exit would wear them thin up front if Vinicius Junior or Kylian Mbappe are injured, which further raises doubts on him being fine with accepting a loan.

He would be a solid signing for Tottenham Hotspur, however, and the perfect Son Heung-min replacement on the left wing, so it remains to be seen if the Lilywhites are prepared to make what it takes to permanently sign him.
