Tottenham is among those Premier League sides tracking Samu Aghehowa closely.

Fabio Paratici is reportedly a big admirer

He has emerged as a prime transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur, with the club’s sporting director, Fabio Paratici, playing a central role in pushing for his signature.

Paratici, who rejoined Tottenham in a consultancy capacity earlier this year after his ban from football activities was lifted, is reportedly a “big admirer” of Aghehowa’s raw pace, power, sharp finishing, and versatility as a forward. This interest aligns with Tottenham’s strategy to bolster their attacking options, especially with Dominic Solanke sidelined by injury.

This freak talent would not be cheap

The Boy Hotspur’s Substack understands that Spurs have added Aghehowa to their shortlist, with Paratici “masterminding” a potential record-breaking move. Sources indicate Tottenham are monitoring his development closely, and this could spark a bidding war involving clubs like Atlético Madrid.

Aghehowa, who joined Porto from Atlético Madrid in 2024, has impressed with his goal-scoring ability and physical attributes, drawing comparisons to a “freak” talent who could be Tottenham’s best centre-forward since Harry Kane. He’s versatile enough to play across the front line and has a release clause reportedly set at around €100 million (£87 million).

Newcastle United held informal talks with Porto late in the summer but didn’t follow up with a formal bid. Aghehowa’s loyalty to the club and lack of pressure to leave were key reasons the deal didn’t advance.

Whether he moves in January will depend on Porto’s flexibility and how serious the interest becomes. But one thing’s clear: Aghehowa is shaping up to be one of the biggest stories of the winter transfer window.

Our view

This, like most deals, is far from straightforward, but the addition of ‘Don Fabio’ makes the notion more exciting, perhaps.

For me, this is all about replacing the generational talent that is Harry Kane. While the club and fans are keen to speak of legacy, it may be of interest to Vinai Venkatesham that Spurs’ legacy is that they have made an absolute mess of the task.

I don’t know if Samu Aghehowa is the answer, but just how much more fuzziness are fans going to tolerate from Solanke and Rocharlison?
