Former Everton CEO, Keith Wyness, has reflected on what the Tottenham owners need to do this summer as the Lilywhites look to rebuild their squad ahead of their first full season under Roberto De Zerbi.

If Spurs do manage to avoid relegation, their supporters will be hoping that the club treat this season as a serious warning and ensures they never find themselves in this position again.

It has been widely reported that Tottenham’s owners are prepared to spend significantly to rebuild their squad this summer if they do manage to stay in the Premier League.

The Lilywhites certainly have a lot of work to do if they are to get themselves back up to the top end of the table, where they will feel they belong, but the Lewis family have been warned that they will have to loosen their purse strings.

Expert claims Tottenham’s owners need to inject £300m into the club

Tottenham’s accounts show that they have a major cash flow problem, which potentially makes the summer window tricky.

Keith Wyness has now suggested that the owners have to inject equity of around £300m into the North London club if they are to build a competitive squad for next season.

The former Everton and Aston Villa chief told Football Insider: “There’s going to have to be some seriously big investment in Spurs. Spurs right now, cash-wise, have got some question marks. The ownership are going to have to put in a very, very big chunk of cash, in terms of equity, to be able to do this.

“They’re going to have to put in something like £300m, at least, to try and turn things around and deliver a squad that can go forward. It’s difficult times, and they’ve got to get through the next two games. So let’s just focus on that.

“Spurs are using every bit of good news they can get to try and keep the fans positive, and give them a thread to hang on to. But we all know the reality. The next two games are where it’s at.”

Spurs could raise significant funds from player sales

Reports indicate that Tottenham have already decided to cash in on several of their senior players this summer as part of their rebuild.

A quartet, who Spurs paid £184m for, are expected to be put on the shop window, with Cristian Romero among the players who are on the chopping block.

The Lilywhites would hope that player sales can help add to De Zerbi’s transfer kitty as the Italian looks to put his own imprint on the squad he inherited.
